History

Jamaica was once a British colony, achieving full independence in 1962. Throughout the island there are Great Houses, which are the former owners' estates on the many sugar plantations that were a major part of Jamaican history.

Today, Jamaica offers a wide array of natural beauty, adventure, art, culture, history and indulgence for all types visitors. Transportation

A modern transportation infrastructure and a choice of taxis, buses, rental cars and even private planes make it easy to get around Jamaica. The Half Moon concierge can arrange for your private transport anywhere on the island and Jamaica Tourist Board licensed taxis are available at the resort.

Rental Cars

In Jamaica, we drive on the left. The speed limit is 50 KPH in towns and 80 KPH on highways. To rent any vehicle, visitors may use a drivers license (valid for 12 months) for up to a 3 month period. Drivers must be at least 25 years of age to rent a car and must post a bond to meet insurance regulations with cash, major credit card, or travellers’ checks. Service stations are open daily and accept cash or credit cards.

For the convenience of the traveller, rest facilities are available on some main roads such as the Rio Bueno, Travel Halt and Rio Braco between Falmouth and Runaway Bay, which is halfway between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. It is open seven days a week, including holidays, from 9AM - 8PM. In addition to restroom facilities, light refreshments can be purchased along with quality local arts and crafts.
